I used to smoke a lot of weed.
Playing music. Hanging out with friends. Going to concerts. It was just part of my daily life.
And I always told myself the same thing.
“I am not addicted. I can stop anytime.”
But when I did not have any… it was uncomfortable. Really uncomfortable.
As I got older something started to shift inside of me. I could feel that it was holding me back. Not that I was sitting around doing nothing. I was still doing great things. Creating. Traveling. Making music.
But I knew I could do more. Be more. Go further.
So over time it became less and less a part of my life. Until one day… it was just gone.
I am not here to judge anyone who smokes. Cannabis has real healing and spiritual properties and I honor that completely.
But I knew that the next level of my life did not include it. My body, my mind, my energy, and my focus needed to be treated with care and intention for me to become who I was meant to be.
Several years later I have never been more clear, healthy, happy, and focused.
And as a hypnotherapist I have had the privilege of walking many clients through this same journey.
Whether you are struggling with cigarettes, alcohol, substances, or any habit that feels bigger than you right now… I want you to know something.
You can overcome it.
Here are the three steps that worked for me, and have worked with many of my clients.
Step 1. Future Vision.
This is the most powerful piece of the whole equation.
I created a future vision so big, so beautiful, and so alive that weed simply did not have a place in it. When I started pouring my energy and time into bigger things… the habit just fell away. Not because I forced it. But because my future did not have room for it.
Get your vision so clear and so compelling that the old habit becomes boring next to it.
Step 2. New Habits.
What feels like an addiction is really just a tiny series of decisions made over and over so many times that your brain built a highway for it. A neural pathway. A well worn road your mind travels without thinking.
When you build new habits… working out, walking, hiking, reading, listening to things that lift you… your brain starts dissolving the old roads and building new ones.
Fill your mind, body, and spirit with energy, movement, and new thoughts. Give your brain something better to build.
Step 3. Environment.
You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. I believe that deeply.
When you are making big changes you have to set yourself up to win. If certain friendships or places are built around the old habit… give yourself permission to step away for a while. Go monk mode for 30 to 90 days. Create space for the new version of you to take root.
Your bartender might miss you. Your future self will thank you.
I believe with my whole heart that God put your dreams and desires inside of you for a reason. If a habit is keeping you from becoming who you were meant to be… you are holding back something the world needs.
You can do this.
What feels like an addiction is just a series of small decisions. And decisions can always change.
Create the vision. Build the new habits. Shift the environment.
And if you need help with hypnosis along the way… I am here.
