“The words you attach to your experience become your experience.” ~Tony Robbins
There’s a quote I’ve carried with me for years. It comes from Tony Robbins, and it’s deceptively simple. But when you really sit with it, when you let it sink into your bones, it changes everything.
The words you attach to your experience become your experience.
Most of us go through life without ever understanding the power of our words. We toss them around carelessly. A negative quip here, limiting language there, destructive metaphors all in between…
We say these things without thought to each other, and especially to ourselves.
But here’s the truth that most people never realize:
Each word you utter into the Universe is a spell you are casting.
You are a master wizard, and the words you use are your magic.
As Bruce Lee once said, “that’s why it’s called ‘spelling.’”
Think about that for a moment. The act of arranging letters to create words—spelling—is literally the act of casting spells. Your vocabulary is your spell book. Your thoughts are incantations. And the reality you experience is the manifestation of the magic you’ve been performing, consciously or unconsciously, every single day.
The Spell of “Can’t”
Let me give you an example that hits close to home.
Many of us, my past self included, commonly used the word “can’t.”
“I can’t lose weight.” “I can’t quit smoking.” “I can’t forgive them.” “I can’t change.”
When you use this word in relation to an activity or behavior you would like to do, you’re doing something profound and destructive. You’re cementing the fact that you haven’t had success with it. You’re closing the door on possibility. You’re declaring to your subconscious mind and to the Universe itself that this is a fixed, unchangeable truth about you.
Which ironically makes it even harder to achieve.
Your subconscious mind is always listening. It takes your words as instructions. When you say “I can’t,” it says “Okay, got it. We can’t do that. I’ll make sure we continue to fail at this thing.”
And so the spell is cast. The prophecy fulfills itself.
Breaking the Spell
But what if you dropped that phrase completely from your vocabulary?
What if, instead of “I can’t,” you used words like:
“Up until now, I haven’t been able to…”
“As of now, this hasn’t worked, but I will find a solution.”
“I’m in the process of learning how to…”
You see how this opens up the possibility of change?
The first phrase—”up until now”—acknowledges your current reality without declaring it permanent. It leaves the door open. It suggests that what was true in the past doesn’t have to be true in the future.
The second phrase—”I will find a solution”—is a declaration of intent. It’s a spell of determination and possibility.
These aren’t just semantics. These aren’t just words. These are fundamentally different programs you’re installing in your subconscious mind.
The Spells We Cast on Ourselves
When I hear people say things like “I’m bad at math,” or “I can’t quit smoking,” or “I can’t forgive him/her,” I feel for them.
Not because I pity them. But because I know exactly what they’re doing.
They are solidifying that limiting experience with their language.
Every time they repeat that phrase, they’re strengthening the neural pathways that support that belief. They’re reinforcing the identity. They’re making the spell more and more powerful.
And the worst part? They don’t even know they’re doing it.
It’s unconscious. Automatic. A habit of language that shapes the very fabric of their reality.
Destructive Metaphors: The Dark Magic We Don’t See
Going even further, let’s look at destructive metaphors.
These are the subtle spells that slip into our everyday language, casting dark magic without us even realizing it.
How many times have you heard someone say:
“This is killing me.” “You make me sick.” “I’m dying to see that movie.” “This project is draining the life out of me.”
Guess what you’re getting when you repeat these phrases?
That’s right. The magical spell. More sickness. More death. More exhaustion. More depletion.
Your subconscious mind doesn’t understand metaphor. It takes everything literally. When you say “this is killing me,” your body starts to believe it. Your nervous system responds. Your immune system weakens.
You’re literally spelling yourself into sickness and decline.
But it doesn’t have to be this way.
The Magic of Light
Life, light, and love are on the other side of the words you use.
Not only the ones you speak into the universe, but also the ones inside your head.
The internal dialogue. The running commentary. The voice that narrates your experience from the moment you wake up until the moment you fall asleep.
That voice is casting spells constantly.
“I’m so stupid.” “I always mess things up.” “Nothing ever works out for me.” “I’m not good enough.”
These are dark incantations. Curses you’re placing on yourself.
But you have the power to change them.
“I’m learning and growing every day.” “I’m doing my best, and that’s enough.” “Good things are coming my way.” “I am worthy of love and success.”
These are spells of light. Blessings you’re bestowing upon yourself.
You Are the Wizard
Always remember: you are a master wizard of creation.
And each word, each thought, is a spell you are casting on the world and yourself.
You have more power than you realize. The words you choose shape your emotions, your beliefs, your actions, and ultimately, your entire reality.
This isn’t mysticism. This is neuroscience. This is psychology. This is the documented, measurable impact of language on the human brain and nervous system.
When you change your words, you change your thoughts. When you change your thoughts, you change your feelings. When you change your feelings, you change your actions. When you change your actions, you change your life.
It all starts with the spell.
The Choice
So here’s the question you need to ask yourself:
Will you be a wizard of light, or a wizard of dark?
Will you cast spells of possibility, growth, love, and abundance?
Or will you cast spells of limitation, fear, sickness, and scarcity?
The choice is yours. It always has been.
Choose wisely.
Much Love,

Your Next Step
What words can you shift in your life that will shape your experience for the better?
Take a moment right now. Think about the phrases you use most often. The words that come out of your mouth when you talk about yourself, your abilities, your relationships, your future.
Are they spells of light or spells of dark?
Write them down. Become aware of them. And then consciously choose new words. New spells. New magic.
