When you first walk up to it, you are awestruck. I mean, how could this possibly be here? Not a short bus ride from Puno, along the shores of Lake Titicaca, lies this incredibly mysterious cultural phenomenon.
Aramu Muru, or “Gate of the Gods”, is a door that is carved into the side of a small red rock mountain. It is the exact size of a human with his arms outstretched. Although its unclear what the origins or purpose of this doorway are, theories abound within Peru’s rich cultural myths and legends.

Legends of the Past
Numerous legendary theories exist about this strange and puzzling carving. Many people believe that it is a portal into another dimension, or a “doorway to the Gods.” Legend has it that a famous Incan priest entered through the doorway, which still emits light to this day. Some also claim that priests and Gods have returned through the doorway to check upon their kingdoms.
The Golden Disk
The Legend of Aramu Muru also ties into the famous “Golden Disk” of Peruvian lore. The myth states that a golden disk, held in high regard by Incan priests, and containing much of their important cultural and historical data, was brought here when the Spanish invaded. To protect the Golden Disk, an Incan priest, also named Aramu Muru, traveled to this mysterious door, placed the disk inside of it. When he did, the door opened, and he disappeared, with the disk, into another dimension.
The legend goes even further to state that Aramu Muru, placed a the disk in a temple, which is located below the surface of Lake Titicaca. There it remains to this day, protected by the Gods, and preserving the ancient wisdom of the Incan people.

Impressions
Whether these legends are totally, or just partially true, it is no doubt that Aramu Muru is one of the most interesting destinations you could ever visit. Peruvian culture is imbued with the paranormal, and this site is one of its masterpieces.
The energy is of the place is palpable. I could feel the importance of its ancient origins. Overlooking Lake Titicaca, walking through the corridors of this mysterious redstone mountain, I was transported through time, as history came alive inside my mind and spirit.
If it’s true that portals or stargates actually exist, this Peruvian destination is a prime candidate. The “Gate of the Gods”, sitting silently next to the highest elevation lake in the world, serves as a powerful testament to the idea that there is a lot more to this world than meets the eye.
